Commencing as an initiative of Connecting Southern Gold Coast in 2012 to provide an onshore celebration of surfing, culture and the arts during the Quiksilver and Roxy Pros in March, Bleach* Festival is now the signature annual multi-arts festival of the Gold Coast.
Featuring 60+ events spanning across the city over three action packed weeks, Bleach* Festival celebrates the city’s best artists, welcomes renowned Australian and international collaborators and engages a broad audience through a range of accessible events.
COOLY ROCKS ON
Australia's biggest annual nostalgia festival, Cooly Rocks On, rocks through town every year in June. Attracting over 100,000 to the twin towns of Coolangatta and Tweed, the crowds come to revel in the nostalgia of everything 50s and 60s from rock 'n' roll to rockabilly and swing, as well as a host of live entertainment, dance competitions and classic cars lining the streets of the beachside suburb.
Retro markets, food stalls and fun keep the festival atmosphere rolling on as the Southern Gold Coast celebrates the typically quieter winter months with clear skies and sunny days - making it the perfect time of year to visit.
SWELL SCULPTURE FESTIVAL
For 10 days every September, Currumbin beachfront comes alive with larger than life sculptures by local, national and international artists for the annual Swell Sculpture Festival.
Crowds flock to the beachside hub to marvel at the wondrous displays, thought provoking pieces and interactive activities that make up this cultural event. It is a free, family-friendly festival and the introduction of children's workshops, live music and twilight walks to the festival program have made it a must-visit for all ages.
BUSKERS BY THE CREEK
Buskers by the Creek is an annual celebration of arts, culture and community spirit, filling the banks of Currumbin Creek with colour, movement and music.
The free annual event will features an eclectic group of more than 280 performance artists, contortionists, sword swallowers, stunt riders, circus performers and acrobats showcasing their talents. An international menu to please all foodies is also on offer, with well-known local restaurants dishing up their favourites with festival flair.
COOLANGATTA CHRISTMAS CAROLS
This free family event is held in Queen Elizabeth Park at Coolangatta every December, featuring everyone's favourite Christmas Carols and an appearance from Santa.
Presented by The Strand at Coolangatta, the carols provide an opportunity for the whole community on the Southern Gold Coast to come together and celebrate Christmas. Food trucks and market stalls are on offer as well as plenty of entertainment for the kids and a fireworks display to conclude the evening.
TUGUN LIGHTS UP
Tugun Lights Up is an annual celebration of Christmas spirit held throughout the month of December in Tugun Village. The Village comes to life with businesses lit up in Christmas lights, with shop window displays to marvel at, and a community street party to kick off the festivities.
An initiative of Tugun Progress Association and Connecting Southern Gold Coast, the aim of Tugun Lights Up is to create a festive atmosphere and bring the spirit of Christmas into the heart of the village for everyone to enjoy.
