Despite dramatic displays of lightning and some rain showers, nothing could dampen the spirit of the Tugun community who came out in force on Saturday for the launch of the annual Tugun Lights Up celebration. The Street Party brought crowds into the heart of Tugun Village, with great support from the traders this year.
All in all, a successful event despite the weather, and it was great to have all our local dignitaries in attendance – including Federal Member for McPherson, the Hon Karen Andrews MP, State Member for Currumbin, Hon Jann Stuckey MP and Division 14 Councillor Gail O’Neill who provided an exceptional level of support for this year's event.
Performances by local musicians were a stand out – from street buskers to carollers and bands taking to the stages, with a highlight of the afternoon certainly provided by local Currumbin Valley State School students, The Valley Vibes.
Thanks must go to the Tugun community for a fantastic turnout, to organiser Amanda Spooner, the Tugun Progress Association, and to all the supporters including City of Gold Coast Division 14, the Blenkins Group, Decorative Lighting Company, Tugun Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank, Neumann Benevolent Foundation, the Follent family, John Flynn Private Hospital and Ray White Tugun.
And the fun isn't over yet - all the businesses in Tugun will remain up in lights for the whole month of December. Villagers and visitors can vote for their favourite window display by nominating the business with the most outstanding Christmas lights.
Grab a Nomination Form form from outside Cr Gail O'Neill's office or the Tugun Fruit Market and pop the nomination into Santa's Letterbox, located at the Tugun Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank on Golden Four Drive.
The winning business will be announced on 4 January, 2017.
