Surf World Recognised with Top Award

Surf World Gold Coast was recognised at the 2016 Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA) for outstanding achievement in the category of ‘Engagement: Organisations Volunteer Run’ on Tuesday 22 November.

Announced the winner for its development program Sharing the Stoke, the Currumbin based museum is the only one in Queensland dedicated to surfing heritage and beach culture.

Within the past 12 months, Surf World’s volunteer committee and staff have delivered an impressive lineup of public events including the 2016 Nikon Surf Photo/Movie of the Year exhibition, hosting renowned filmmaker Phil Avalon’s book launch, hosting numerous surf film screenings and artworks as well as public engagement with audiences at off site events such as pop up museums, festivals and expos.

The award ceremony was presented by Museums & Galleries Queensland (M&G QLD), a body that not only celebrates the achievements of the state’s museum and gallery sector but recognises the contribution they make to both local and wider communities.
