Coolangatta was buzzing with Christmas spirit on Sunday as Santa made a grand entrance for the crowd at the Coolangatta Christmas Carols, presented by The Strand.
Thousands of families, locals and visitors to the Southern Gold Coast came out in droves as blue skies welcomed a fantastic night of carols and Christmas cheer under the stars.
Frosty the Snowman opened the show, and was soon joined by Santa who left his reindeer behind and instead came skydiving in, landing onto the beach thanks to Gold Coast Skydive.
Gold Coast community chorus, Vocalesence, performed everyone’s favourite carols, and the night was then taken away by the supremely talented crowd favourite, Denis Walter from Melbourne, who has leant his voice to Channel 9’s Christmas Carols for 30 years. Denis was able to make the trip up from Melbourne thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hutchinson Builders Gold Coast and Tweed – based at Coolangatta.
The event was expertly MC’d by TV personality Jessica Skarratt, who is also a Southern Gold Coast local, and for the first time we were proud to deliver a plastic bottle free event. City of Gold Coast gave away 1,600 free reusable water bottles and the crowds enjoyed the water refill stations that were set up on site. This activity saved 726 plastic water bottles from landfill.
Event charity, The Salvation Army, were also stationed at the event selling their $3 candles, and raised $2,000 for those in need this Christmas. Additionally, the Rotary Club of Currumbin, Coolangatta and Tweed raised $1,600 via their sausage sizzle. Great to see these charitable efforts well supported, with over $3,600 in fundraising provided to local community organisations from the Carols.
In all in all it was a fantastic event, with great support from the Coolangatta and wider Southern Gold Coast community.
Thanks must go to the CSGC Events team, presenting partners The Strand at Coolangatta, and supporters City of Gold Coast Divison 14 Councillor Gail O’Neill, Hutchinson Builders Gold Coast/Tweed, Gold Coast Skydive, The Salvation Army and the Greater Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce.
