Record crowds flocked to the Coolangatta beachside as the Coolangatta Christmas Carols saw an estimated 10,000 people wrapped in festive cheer and a ‘snow-stopping’ finale in Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday 15 December.
The free family event saw Santa skydive onto Coolangatta Beach and ended with epic snowfall for the first time ever on the Southern Gold Coast.
Hosted by 92.5 TRIPLE M’s Spida and Nelly, You-tube kids entertainment sensation Debbie Doo commenced the spectacular pre-show entertainment with Bryn Jenke and Mr Christmas himself, Denis Walter, leading the masses in all the Christmas classics.
Connecting Southern Gold Coast CEO Josh Martin said it was incredible to see such strong crowds come out to celebrate the end of the year. “The Southern Gold Coast community loves the Coolangatta Carols, and to see us attract record crowds certainly shows everyone needed a little festive cheer this year and we wish to thank our sponsors for helping us deliver the best event ever.”
“Congratulations to our team who also negotiated with Santa to spectacularly sky dive on to the beach, and then turn the beach front white by making it snow for the first time in Coolangatta,” he adds.
As a plastic-free event, City of Gold Coast water refill stations were in use around the site, saving approximately 710 single-use plastic water bottles from entering landfill.
The Coolangatta Christmas Carols were proudly presented by Hutchinson Builders and City of Gold Coast Division 14 Cr Gail O'Neill and supported by The Surf Club Coolangatta, RBR Property Consultants, Ocean Plaza Resort, Gold Coast Airport, The Strand at Coolangatta and media partner, 92.5 TRIPLE M.
