Papua New Guinea’s National Beach Volleyball team has identified Coolangatta’s Beach Volleyball Courts as the training hub that will allow them to best prepare for the Commonwealth Games Oceania Qualification Event in Vanuatu in December 2017.
Working with local coach Sange Carter and her team, PNG’s team will visit Australia four times over the next few months to play in the Queensland State Tour in Mooloolaba, Brisbane and Coolangatta as well as the Australian Beach Tour in Sydney to help them prepare for the qualification event.
A squad of 12 athletes will be narrowed down over the selection phase until the final men's and women's pair will compete for a place in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, with Coolangatta’s Beach Volleyball Courts hosting the world class event in April 2018.
Coaches will also be travelling to PNG over the next few months to allow the team to further develop their skills and to use their knowledge to improve the level of beach volleyball in all athletes in PNG.
