A number of the Gold Coast’s best and bravest surf lifesavers were honoured at the National Awards of Excellence 2016, held at the Art Gallery of NSW on Saturday 22 October. Surf lifesavers and dignitaries from around the country gathered to see Pacific Surf Life Saving Club in Palm Beach take out the prestigious DHL Club of the Year for the work they have done to increase their membership from 242 to 331 over the past season.
Chris Dennis of Currumbin Surf Life Saving Club also received an Individual Certificate of Merit. Surf Life Saving Australia’s President Graham Ford AM reminded a captivated audience of what the night was all about: “Recognising achievements and acknowledging our members.”
“Your efforts reflect Surf Life Saving’s role as a vital rescue and emergency service,” Mr Ford said.
“Your actions show how we, as the largest volunteer movement of its kind in the world, have become a valued and beloved organisation to the wider community.”
