National fundraiser Melanoma March was successfully hosted on the Southern Gold Coast at The Strand at Coolangatta on Sunday 22 March. This was the first time the walk had been brought to Coolangatta at The Strand, assisted by CSGC, raising over $15,000 dollars for research into the deadly disease.
National fundraiser Melanoma March was successfully hosted on the Southern Gold Coast at The Strand at Coolangatta on Sunday 22 March. An initiative of the Melanoma Institute Australia, this was the first time the event has been held in Coolangatta leaving from The Strand, and it was brought here by local residents Tony Van de Wakker and his wife Jenny Thulborn, who has Stage 4 Melanoma.
The 3km walk attracted over 150 participants despite a very wet start to the day. Many of the participants brought along their furry friends for the morning walk around to Duranbah and back to The Strand to enjoy the specials offered by The Strand retailers throughout the day.
Supported by CSGC, the Coolangatta event alone raised $15,500 for melanoma research that will directly impact our region – given we have the highest rate of melanoma diagnoses in the country.
Donations can still be made to Melanoma March to assist the Melanoma Institute Australia with lifesaving research and clinical trials for the treatment of melanoma. Visit www.melanomamarch.org.au
