Young emerging artists have a new home on the Southern Gold Coast, with the Level Up Studio + Gallery now open at The Strand at Coolangatta.
Transforming the space on Level 1 at the beachside centre, the gallery is a place for young artists to create and exhibit their work to the public, with up to five artists in residence at any time.
The arts incubator program is an initiative of the City of Gold Coast and aims to support emerging artists who are transitioning from school or tertiary studies to a career in the Gold Coast’s creative industries sector.
“This is a really exciting program for the City of Gold Coast to support and launch our city’s most talented young artists in a way that prepares them for the business side of the creative arts industry,” said Division 14 Councillor Gail O’Neill.
“The arts community on the Southern Gold Coast is particularly strong, and this space and this program will ensure we can grow our local industry and give artists more opportunities to build their networks here.”
Level Up’s first public exhibition will be the One Up group show from 23 November 2018 – 6 January 2019, featuring the works of current artists in residence – Courtenay McCue, Melissa Spratt, Jaye Jermyn, Adrienne Kenafake and Harry Macintosh.
Level Up Studio + Gallery will host community and school holiday workshops over the summer as well as regular artist events. Keep an eye on www.strandcoolangatta.com.au
