International Tourism Snapshot Figures Released

Tourism and Events Queensland have released Australia’s Tourism Industry statistics for the year ending March 2017, finding that tourism on the Gold Coast has reached a record high.

International visitation to the Gold Coast not only increased 9% to 1 million in this period, but was found to be the most popular destination in Queensland among Chinese travellers. China is the Gold Coast’s largest international source market and welcomed 295,000 visitors.

International visitation to Queensland grew 6.8% to a record 2.6 million visitors, who spent a record $5.2 billion in our state. Australia has also enjoyed another record number of international visitors, welcoming 7.6 million visitors, with annual growth strong at 9.1%.

Great results and positive signs for our Gold Coast tourism industry continuing to attract strong visitation from international visitors.

The International Tourism Snapshot includes results from the International Visitor Survey conducted by Tourism Research Australia.
