Connecting Southern Coast Ltd has sponsored the first business seminar on the Gold Coast to alert Gold Coast businesses to the growing opportunity for air freighting export cargo from the Gold Coast Airport, at Bilinga.
The seminar was held on 23 June at Tugun SLSC and was promoted by One Global Logistics a local Gold Coast freight forwarding company. www.onegloballogistics.com
The Seminar was opened by Dennis Chant the Managing Director of Queensland Airports Limited, the owner of the Gold Coast Airport. Mr Chant informed the attendees that the low cost international carriers using the Gold Coast Airport were increasingly seeking out export cargo as a revenue generator to assist with continuing to keep their passenger air fares as low as possible. He emphasized that it was up to 50% cheaper to air freight cargo out of the Gold Coast than Brisbane. Mr James Sparke the Managing Director of One Global Logistics emphasized that with JAL vacating Brisbane in the new year, Gold Coast Airport was well placed to become a hub for airfreight to Asia, in conjunction with Air Asia-X and other carriers. Mr Sparkes emphasized that the opportunity for exporters to connect with Asia from the Gold Coast could make areas like Currumbin Waters Industrial Estate a much more sought after location for freight forwarding operations, over time. Other speakers from export service providers updated the meeting on such things as importing; transshipment; insurance; and price structures.
Connecting Southern Gold Coast Ltd will continue to work with Gold Coast Airport to have follow up seminars which might include such things as a visit to the Airport to view transshipment facilities and the like.
