Dust Temple at Currumbin hosted the annual Empty Bowls Gold Coast project in September, raising $20,000 for local organisation Agape Outreach as part of a worldwide initiative to raise funds and awareness for the homeless and hungry.
Some 50 potters from around Australia made and donated bowls to be purchased at the event, while local Southern Gold Coast restaurants donated food to fill the bowls to the brim, including Currumbin’s Elephant Rock Café and Niche & Co at Tugun. The sold-out event raised $16,000 in ticket sales alone, along with a further $4,000 from the silent auction of large bowls which were made with donated clay and painted by local artists.
All funds raised were donated to local charity, Agape Outreach, which supports homeless from Southport to Byron Bay.
Building on the event’s first successful year at Dust Temple in 2018, Empty Bowls Gold Coast has cemented itself as one of the must-attend causes of the year. Congratulations to the organisers and supporting businesses on this year’s outstanding achievement.
