More than $11,000 was raised to fight against hunger at the sold out Empty Bowls Gold Coast event on Saturday 15 September at Currumbin’s Dust Temple.
Around 50 local potters created and donated over 300 bowls which guests then purchased at the event as a reminder of all those without food across the globe. In exchange for a simple meal donated by a local restaurant and the bowl, guests contributed a donation with 100% of the proceeds going to local hunger-fighting charity, Agape Outreach Inc.
Originally founded in the USA in the 1990s, Empty Bowls is now an international project to fight hunger, supported by artists, mainly potters within a community. The initiative supports food related charities around the world and has raised millions of dollars to aid in the fight against hunger.
