Elite Events put Coolangatta Courts on Map

Posted on Monday, October 24, 2016

The new Coolangatta Beach Volleyball Courts located opposite The Strand are building momentum, with the courts attracting more elite and social events.

Coolangatta is set to play host to the Beach Volleyball competition at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, with 1.5 billion people tuning in across the globe to view the sport on our iconic beachfront.

The Queensland Beach Volleyball Tour is the highest level of Beach Volleyball offered in the state and recently saw the courts used for the first major event at Coolangatta, held over two days of competitive tournaments for the Cooly Classic Pairs on 15 – 16 October.

Since the installation of the Coolangatta courts in July, there has been:

  • An average of 90 people using free public access per weekend,
  • An average of 23 players per Friday evening Sunset Session,
  • Highest weekend attendance of 136 people

These statistics show the region is building momentum not just for their use but for their standing as a world-class venue for upcoming elite events.

Coolangatta State School now also have a regular weekly booking at the free courts to hold Volleyball lessons as part of their Physical Education program – a great result.

CSGC encourages further use of the courts for both elite, social, corporate and educational purposes. Bookings are required for tournaments and organised events or regular social competitions, however day to day use is free and open to the public without booking between 8.00am and 6.00pm.
