Posted on Thursday, April 26, 2018

There are a lot of exciting works and events happening on the Southern Gold Coast over the coming months. Keep up to date with what's on by following my updates on facebook.com/gailoneilldivision14

After the Games
There will be lots of post-games activity with the dismantling of GC2018 infrastructure. The GOLDOC team will be working diligently to bump-out of the GC2018 precincts and re-open the affected areas for public use. Your ongoing understanding and patience will be much appreciated during this time.

Local Area Works

Captain Cook Memorial
Maintenance works are due to commence on the Captain Cook Memorial at Point Danger on Monday 30 April for 6 weeks. For safety reasons, the viewing deck will be unavailable to the public during this time.

Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway
The detailed design for the Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway has been completed. Interested parties can view a copy of the latest plans at my office or by contacting the project team on 07 5581 1804.

Black Spot Programme, Intersection Upgrade Kitchener Street, Monash Street and Malparara Street
Funding has been awarded from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme to improve road safety at the intersection of Kitchener Street, Monash Street and Malparara Street in Tugun. The construction of a new roundabout will replace the existing priority controlled intersection. Also included in these works is the construction of the road pavement, drainage, kerb and channel and a street lighting upgrade.

Golden Four Drive, Road Upgrades
Additional parking will be installed on the western side of Golden Four Drive between Dune Street and Short Street. Plans for works along Golden Four Drive between Short Street and Gibson Street are complete and are due to commence from 1 July with the majority of parking to remain.

Reconstruction Works, Currumbin Creek - Tomewin Mountain Road
The Department of Main Roads is due to commence reconstruction works after ANZAC Day on Currumbin Creek - Tomewin Mountain Road following Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie. Working hours will be 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday with weekend and night work as required. All restoration work on Currumbin Creek - Tomewin Mountain Road is expected to be completed by late 2018. For an estimated three month period during the reconstruction works, Currumbin Creek - Tomewin Mountain Road will be reduced to one-lane in several locations with traffic controlled by temporary signals. The project team will provide further details to residents and motorists about work schedules and associated construction impacts as the project progresses.

Winders Park, Currumbin
Two (2) speed humps will be installed along the road within Winders Park to deter speeding.

Kitchener Street to Boyd Street Drainage
Due to wet weather delays, the Kitchener Street to Boyd Street drain is due to be completed in the next 4-6 weeks.

Artbox 2018
Artwork by local artist Dannielle Simpson has been installed on Traffic Signal Box 5052 at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Guineas Creek Road off ramp, Currumbin Waters and Traffic Signal Box 5168 at the intersection of Musgrave Street and Coolangatta Road, Coolangatta. Artbox has been implemented to reduce the impacts of graffiti on traffic signal boxes.

Defibrillators
13 defibrillators have been installed at approved locations across the City, including Coolangatta and Elanora Libraries.

Beach Matting
The City is continuing to negotiate the availability of beach matting with Surf Clubs on the Southern Gold Coast.
