There are a lot of exciting works and events happening on the Southern Gold Coast as we get set for the Games and beyond. Keep up-to-date with what’s on by following my updates on

GC2018 Commonwealth Games

Waste Collection Services
To accommodate changes in traffic conditions and increased waste service demands during GC2018, the early servicing of waste bins is in place for a 5 week period (Sunday 18 March to Friday 20 April). To facilitate waste servicing, your bins will need to be accessible for collection from midnight, the night before your usual service day. When placing your bins out for collection, please ensure they can be easily accessed by our waste trucks as they will be unable to return for missed services during GC2018. If your bin needs replacing or fixing, there will be delays in this service during the Games period. We appreciate your cooperation during this time.

Divisional Champions
The success of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is also attributed to the hard work of local members within our community.
Through City of Gold Coast, I was able to offer two tickets (2) to a selected sporting event during the Commonwealth Games to Jill Wych, founding member and president of Bilinga Neighbourhood Watch for the past 29 years. Jill’s dedication and commitment to the safety of the community is commendable.
Through City of Gold Coast I have also nominated the following community groups to receive two tickets (2) each to attend the GC2018 Opening Ceremony Dress Rehearsals, in recognition of their contributions to our community: Cyclades Crescent Neighbourhood Watch, Marlin Waters Neighbourhood Watch, Lioness Club of Palm Beach Currumbin, Tugun Progress Association and the Rotary Club of Currumbin-Coolangatta-Tweed Inc.

After the Games
There will be lots of post-games activity with the dismantling of GC2018 infrastructure. The GOLDOC team will be working diligently to bump-out of the GC2018 precincts and re-open the affected areas for public use. Your ongoing understanding and patience will be much appreciated during this time.

Local Area Works

Black Spot Programme, Intersection Upgrade Coolangatta Road, Lord Street and Appel Street
Road improvements are in progress at the intersection of Coolangatta Road (near Coolangatta State School), Lord Street and Appel Street, Coolangatta as part of the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme. Black Spot Programme, Intersection Upgrade Kitchener Street, Monash Street and Malparara Street
Funding has been awarded from the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme to improve road safety at the intersection of Kitchener Street, Monash Street and Malparara Street in Tugun. The construction of a new roundabout will replace the existing priority controlled intersection. Also included in these works is the construction of the road pavement, drainage, kerb and channel and a street lighting upgrade.

Miles Street and Musgrave Street Intersection, Kirra
The Give Way Sign which was previously on Miles Street has been relocated so that traffic on Musgrave Street now gives way to traffic on Miles Street.

Winders Park, Currumbin
Two (2) speed humps will be installed along the road within Winders Park to deter speeding. These works are due to commence after the Commonwealth Games.

Golden Four Drive, Road Upgrades
Additional parking will be installed on the western side of Golden Four Drive between Dune Street and Short Street. These works are due to commence after the Commonwealth Games.

Golden Four Drive, Upgrade of Garden Beds
Upgrades of the garden beds on either side of the Gold Coast Highway along Golden Four Drive (between Toolona Street and Johnston Street) and along Coolangatta Road (between the airport and Tugun Park) are complete. Works included the removal of pest species, dead wooding, mulching and the planting of new hibiscus trees.

Garden renovations at Point Danger are complete. The plants within the median along Griffith Street, Coolangatta have been replaced with drought proof succulents.
