Welcome to the March edition of my monthly Councillor
Newsletter for 2019. As your Councillor, I am passionate
about serving the needs of residents, schools, businesses
and community groups within Division 14.
My office in Tugun is open Tuesday to Friday between
8.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm. Should you have any
community concerns, feedback or suggestions I am

I conduct weekly pop-up listening posts every Friday
between 9am-11am at Coolangatta Library so if you are in
the area please call in and see me to say hi.

Local Area Works
Golden Four Drive, Road Upgrades
commenced along Golden Four Drive to complete the
Principal Active Transport route to encourage walking and
cycling. This includes upgrading and widening the shared
path between Short Street and Matters Street, and
connecting the path and bus stop ramps to improve
accessibility. The works also include renewal of the road
pavement along Golden Four Drive (from Short Street to
Gibson Street) to improve its condition.
Works are due to be completed mid-year with the majority of
parking to remain. To minimise impacts, works will be
delivered in stages (block by block). Notification letters will
be sent to local businesses and residents.
Graham Street Viewing Deck
The viewing deck on
Graham Street is currently being replaced as the old one
has reached end of life. Works are due to be completed by
Playground Upgrade, Joe Doniger Park – I have
requested Council Officers prepare costings to upgrade the
playground and surrounds on the northern side of North
Kirra Surf Club in readiness for the 2019/2020 budget.
Playground Upgrade, Tugun
Upgrades are complete at
our brand new castle themed playground at Tugun Park (Coolangatta Road, Tugun) and the playground has been
re-opened to the public. The playground is suitable for ages
3+ years with a few toys for the littlies.
Playground Upgrade, Queen Elizabeth II Park
upgrade the playground at QEII Park (Marine Parade,
Coolangatta) are due to be completed and the playground
re-opened to the public during the week commencing
Monday 4 March.
Playground Upgrade, Binung Park
Works to upgrade
the playground at Binung Park (Border Drive North,
Currumbin Waters) are due to be completed and the
playground re-opened to the public on Monday 4 March.
Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway
Additional safety signage
has been installed for users of the Tugun to Bilinga
Oceanway shared path. Please ensure you follow these
guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety. 3 dog drinking bowls
will also be fitted to showers along the Oceanway.
What’s on in our Community
Community Grants Program 2019-20
funding under the 2019-20 Community Grants Program,
including Seniors Week 2019, are currently open until 4pm
on Thursday 28 March 2019. For details of the program
Tugun Community Bank® Branch Mural Competition
Young, local artists aged between 12-25 years are invited to
create a design for a mural for the Tugun Community Bank®
Branch wall. Showcase your talent by creating a design
which reflects Tugun – Now and Then. The design must be
of social media worthiness with ‘selfie’ potential and artists
are encouraged to include Tugun icons in their design. Enter
to win a $2,000 Bendigo Bank account and up to $1,000 for

Australian Red Cross Blood Service
The mobile donor
centre will be parked at 34 Lanham Street (carpark)
Coolangatta from 6pm Sunday 17 March to 11pm Friday 22
March and will be operating daily between 6am to 6pm.
Creative Life & Movies Under the Stars
Somerset Storyfest in partnership with Tugun Community
Bank Branch® and proudly supported by Cr Gail O’Neill,
Creative Life – a Tugun community event and Movies Under
the Stars returns to Tugun Park on Saturday 30 March
Join us for this free family event with author readings, popup library, busking, poetry slam, face painting, kids potting
workshops, garden walks, seedling giveaways, roving
entertainment, food trucks and Movies Under the Stars –
‘The Greatest Showman’ at 6.30pm.
Shout Out to youth aged 12-25 years!
We’re celebrating the boundless, ‘unlimited’ energy you
bring to our community with a free festival full of fun just for
you on Saturday 6 April from 10am to 3pm at Tugun Skate
Park, Boyd Street Tugun.
Come and celebrate Youth Week 2019 on Southern Gold
Coast with free interactive entertainment including:
- Skate clinics, demonstrations and competitions
- Live music and entertainment
- Rock climbing
- BYO camera workshop

Tugun Community Bank® Branch Community Funding
Representatives of local community groups are
invited to attend the launch of the Tugun Community Bank®
Branch sponsorship program at an Information Session on
Wednesday 10 April at 6pm at Tugun Surf Life Saving
Club. The branch is looking to partner with local
organisations to support initiatives which will enhance our
