Welcome to the September edition of my monthly Councillor Newsletter for 2019.
As your Councillor, I am passionate about serving the needs of residents, schools, businesses and community groups within Division 14.
My office in Tugun is open Tuesday to Friday between 8.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm. Residents are invited to meet with me to discuss any community concerns, feedback or suggestions. Water main replacement, Currumbin Waters
The City will be constructing a new water main in Station Street, Currumbin Waters. Works will commence on Monday 19 August and are expected to be completed within 6 weeks (weather permitting). Construction works will take place Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm. The work will be carried out in three stages - pipe laying, reconnection and restoration. During the re-connection stage, temporary water shutdowns will be required and affected residents will be advised in advance by notification letter. Access to properties will be provided at all times.
Reservoir supply valve replacement
The City will be replacing valves in the water supply network at multiple locations according to the following schedule:
During the construction stage temporary water shutdowns may be required. Advanced notice will be given to affected residents.
Coplick Footbridge replacement, Tallebudgera Valley
Works are ongoing to replace the footbridge located on Scotty Logan Lane in Tallebudgera Valley with a single span steel bridge, built at a height to ensure improved safety during the event of a flood. Working hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm. Construction is expected to be completed in October 2019 (weather permitting). Bilinga dune vegetation trimming and planting works
Beach maintenance works are ongoing along Pacific Parade, Bilinga. Vegetation clearing as part of stage one is now complete between Archer Street and Mills Street and will continue through to Gibson Street. Stage two has commenced and will involve uplifting the tree canopy adjacent to the park, weed control, and revegetation with suitable coastal species to replace lost canopy due to vandalism. This project is due to be completed by October.
Kirra Boardwalk renewal project
The City of Gold Coast will soon be commencing a project to renew the iconic Kirra Boardwalk. Built in 2001, the popular wooden structure is reaching the end of its design life. The renewal project will involve a complete removal of the existing boardwalk and sub-structure, installation of concrete piers and precast architectural finished concrete deck and reinstallation of the existing handrail. This type of structure will improve the load capabilities and ensure the safety of pedestrians. The robust concrete structure will ensure the boardwalk is able to withstand the environmental impacts of the beachfront location, and provide a maximum life span of 100 years.
The renewal project is expected to commence in September 2019. Works will take place Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm. The wooden boardwalk and adjacent footpath will be closed for up to five months. A pedestrian detour and
alternative pedestrian paths will be provided along Marine Parade. Beach access from the stairs along the boardwalk will also be temporarily closed during construction. Traffic management and lane closures will be in place.
Roughton Park improvement project
Park renovations involving irrigation installation, re-profiling and new turf will be taking place at Roughton Park, Kirra between 26 August to 18 October (weather permitting). The playground will be closed during this period however access to the amenities block and Oceanway path will remain open.
Pedestrian Crossing, Currumbin Waters
The City is currently upgrading the pedestrian crossing in Galleon Way.
Kirra Beach retaining wall
The City will be replacing the existing retaining wall in the carpark adjacent to unit complex ‘Kirra Gardens’, opposite the Kirra Pavilion.
