New water fountain, Tugun
A new water fountain has been installed next to the playground in Tugun Park.
Kirra Boardwalk renewal project
Works are ongoing to renew the iconic Kirra Boardwalk. The renewal project will involve a complete removal of the existing boardwalk and sub-structure, installation of concrete piers and precast architectural finished concrete deck and reinstallation of the existing handrail.
Works are scheduled Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm. The road has been reduced to one lane for the contraflow of public transport only. A pedestrian and cyclist detour has been provided along Marine Parade. Other vehicles will be
detoured via Tweed Street. The road is due to reopen by 16 November and the project team anticipates the majority of works will be completed by 20 November. Works will cease over the Christmas period. Any remaining works will
be completed in January. Part of the Kirra Pavilion car park is being utilised as a site compound. Beach access from the stairs along the boardwalk will be temporarily closed during construction. The closest beach access will be from Kirra Surf Club or from Queen Elizabeth Park.
Joe Doniger, Playground upgrade
Works are scheduled to commence on 11 November to upgrade the playground at Joe Doniger Park, Bilinga.
Kerbside Collection Trial
The City will be trialing a new kerbside collection system that will be active early next year. The on-demand service will make the process more efficient and easier for you and should enable us to recover and recycle the goods collected. Residents will be notified of timeframes as soon as more information is available.
Road reconstruction, Boundary Street
Road reconstruction works along Boundary Street (Hill Street to Ward Street) are ongoing including the replacement of footpaths, vehicle crossovers, water supply infrastructure, and kerb and channel; and the removal of retaining walls and open drainage channels. Works are due to be completed February 2020 (weather permitting).
Works are scheduled Monday to Saturday between 6am and 6pm with the exception of footpath works on the corner of Ward Street and Boundary Street which will be completed at night to minimise impact to businesses. High impact activities will be scheduled outside of school holidays and major events. The City will work to minimise disruptions. However, local residents may notice construction noise, dust and minor traffic delays. Road closures and detours will be required and traffic management will be in place. On street parking will be restricted along Boundary Street and Ward Street during construction.
