Welcome to the festive edition of my monthly Councillor Newsletter for 2019.
It has been a pleasure to serve the needs of residents, schools, businesses and community groups within Division 14 throughout the year. Wishing Division 14 a merry Christmas and happy New Year.
My office in Tugun is open Tuesday to Friday between 8.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm. Residents are invited to meet with me to discuss any community concerns, feedback or suggestions. New footpath, Currumbin
The construction of a new footpath on the eastern side of Carlyle Drive is now complete.
New beach shower and water fountain station, Currumbin
A new beach shower and water fountain station was recently installed near the boat ramp beside the Currumbin RSL along Currumbin Creek at the request of the Currumbin Creek Paddlers Club who will make use of the new facilities during their weekly sessions.
Kirra Boardwalk renewal project
Works are ongoing to renew the iconic Kirra Boardwalk. The renewal project will involve a complete removal of the existing boardwalk and sub-structure, installation of concrete piers and precast architectural finished concrete deck and reinstallation of the existing handrail. Works will cease over the Christmas period. Any remaining works will be completed in January.
Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Lifesaving Club
Congratulations to the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Lifesaving Club on being awarded Australian Surf Club of the year for 2019.
Free Social Statistics Workshop
Community groups are invited to attend this free workshop on Thursday 12 December between 1.30pm to 2.30pm at the Flinders Room, Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre. Learn how to use the City’s community profiling tools to enable you to examine the population characteristics of your local community. Using demographic information can help you to plan and advocate for your community more effectively, deliver services and build the evidence you need for grant applications.

Currumbin Community Christmas Carols
Santa is coming to Currumbin for a magical evening under the stars. Get the whole family into the festive spirit at the annual Currumbin Community Christmas Carols on Monday 9 December from 5.30pm to 8pm. Sing along to your favourite Christmas songs led by an impressive cast of local talent. Free children’s activities including: craft station, hula hoops, jumping castle and face painting from 5.30pm. Traditional Christmas concert from 6pm with roving entertainment throughout the evening and a laser light show at the conclusion of the event. Bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy a food truck picnic with a variety of dinner and dessert options available from local food trucks. Free admission. Proudly sponsored by Division 14.
Coolangatta Christmas Carols
Coolangatta’s Queen Elizabeth Park will come alive with the spirit of Christmas on Sunday 15 December with the free Coolangatta Christmas Carols proudly supported by Division 14 and Hutchinson Builders.
Sing along to your favourite Christmas carols with legendary performer, Denis Walter. The Coolangatta Christmas markets and food trucks will commence trading from 4pm with the show starting at 5.30pm. Please bring your own water bottle to refill at the water refill-stations as no plastic water bottles will be sold at the event.
Coolangatta New Year’s Eve Fireworks
The night sky will light up over Coolangatta on Tuesday 31 December for the annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks proudly supported by Division 14. There will be a family friendly display at 9pm (AEST) and another display at 12 o’clock midnight (AEST).
