Cooly Rocks On™ has swept through town for another year, bringing record crowds and a fantastic festival atmosphere to the region during the traditionally quiet month of June.
The country’s largest 50s and 60s Rock ‘N Roll Nostalgia Festival drew in an estimated 115,000 people to the Coolangatta/Tweed precinct over the 10 day event, with good weather over the final long weekend (June 6 – 8) contributing to the solid crowd numbers.
We’ve been fortunate to gain an ambassador for the Southern Gold Coast in UK international headliner Si Cranstoun, who was back by popular demand to rock the stage in 2015 and enjoyed his time being shown the sites of our beautiful part of the world. We hope to welcome Si back in future years. He was a headline act at the festival in 2012 & 2013.
This year we also saw a new community event run as an extension of Cooly Rocks On™, initiated by Di Cartmill, owner of the retro-themed La Costa Motel at Bilinga. The Retro Beachside Street Party was hosted in Cahill Street, Bilinga, and Di pulled off a fantastic effort with market stalls, food, entertainment and a great atmosphere enjoyed by several thousand locals on the day.
