Coolangatta Christmas Carols Swaps Fireworks for Wildlife Fundraiser

Posted on Monday, November 25, 2019

Connecting Southern Gold Coast has announced a cancellation of the fireworks display at the end of the premier Coolangatta Christmas Carols event on December 15 will instead partner with Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to help raise funds for wildlife who have been injured in the recent bushfires.

Funds will be raised at the Carols by asking families who attend to donate a gold coin if they can with all money going directly to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.

Connecting Southern Gold Coast CEO Josh Martin, said the iconic Coolangatta Christmas Carols event is a favourite on the local event calendar and it was an easy decision to cancel the fireworks as a result of the devastating bushfirew, with plans underway for an alternative to entertain the crowds at the conclusion of the event.

"The Coolangatta Christmas Carols is all about bringing the community together to celebrate the festive season and with the tragic bushfires and the impact they have had on our wildlife, we are proud to be partnering with Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to raise much needed funds at the event." said Mr Martin.

“We are asking those who attend our Carols to donate a gold coin if they can, and with thousands of locals and visitors expected to attend again this year and this is a wonderful opportunity to rattle tins and give back to the community.”

Presented by Hutchinson Builders and City of Gold Coast Division 14 Cr Gail O'Neill, Coolangatta's Queen Elizabeth Park will come alive with the spirit of Christmas on Sunday 15 December and the free family friendly evening will feature entertainment, Christmas markets, food trucks and a special visit from Santa as he skydives onto the Coolangatta Beach – Southern Gold Coast style.

Denis Walter will return in 2019 as the headlining act, leading the masses in all the Christmas classics with the night hosted by 92.5 TRIPLE M’s Spida and Nelly.
