Bleach* Returns Bigger and Better in 2018

Posted on Monday, February 12, 2018

The Gold Coast’s premier arts and culture festival, Bleach* is returning from 29 March to 15 April, bigger and better than ever.

Running in conjunction with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Bleach* will be collaborating with Festival 2018 to showcase local legends past and present and what makes our region truly unique.

With 32 events scattered across the city, the Southern Gold Coast will also play host to a number of events.

The Welcome Party

If you’re coming into town by air for the Bleach* festivities, you’re in for a treat. From 30 March to 2 April, Gold Coast Airport arrivals will transform into a stage of colour, movement and celebration as a range of dynamic performers roll out the welcome mat, Gold Coast style.

Quiet by Nature
Quiet by Nature is a moonlit kayak tour with a difference, created by local performers and artists Alicia Min Harvie and Viviane Frehner alongside a cast of dancers, circus performers and musicians. Held from 5 - 8 April, this truly immersive experience encapsulates the natural beauty of the Gold Coast and Quiet by Nature audiences will experience wonder and delight as the banks of Currumbin Estuary come to life before their very eyes.

From our neighbours across the Coral Sea comes an explosive Pacific experience that transports audiences to the island paradise of Fiji on 7 and 8 April. As a collective of urban Fijian artists, VOU blends the old and new, the traditional and contemporary with a unique signature style that has seen them receive international acclaim.

From 9am Sunday 8 April to 10am Tuesday 10 April, two office workers will carry on their duties in an office built on Currumbin's sandbar. During low tide, they stand safely on sand, but as the tide rises, water submerges the desk and its contents. For 49 hours, without food or supplies, this post-apocalyptic scene is an interactive theatre work, a dance performance and a test of endurance fuelled by two people’s unwavering belief in the human spirit.

The Language of the Wind
The Language of the Wind is a sound installation created by emerging Indigenous leader Kyle Slabb, with Elders from South East Queensland and North West New South Wales. Held at Greenmount Headland from 6 - 8 April, it will sound at intervals throughout the day and these powerful and evocative calls to country will interrupt and permeate the natural landscape.
