In 2017, The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, the ‘Aussies’, will return to North Kirra Beach from 25 March until 2 April. Across 9 days, over 7000 Surf Life Savers from 313 surf clubs will compete in over 400 events from Youth, Open and Masters categories.
It’s great to see the event returning to our region, as it yields some $20 million in economic impact for the local area. Southern Gold Coast accommodation providers are already reporting very strong room requests since the announcement, which is fantastic news.
The Aussies were last held in Kirra in 2015, with the 2016 Titles held at Maroochydore Beach on the Sunshine Coast.
