Cooly Rocks On | Can your business help?

Posted on September 1st, 2010 by admin

Cooly Rocks On Festival Management Committee are seeking support from businesses in the SGC region that would like to contribute to the Festival by way of in kind services (Eg If you have a rubbish removal business and would be willing to remove rubbish from the festival site at no charge) or discounted costs.

Some of the ways you may be able to support the festival are:

  • Providing discounted or free Accommodation for Entertainers and their families/partners
  • Supplying services at cost price or free of charge
  • Supplying materials at cost price or free of charge

As a result of Wintersun moving to Port Macquarie, the business community have indicated to the committee that it is paramount to replace the festival hence the birth of Cooly Rocks On. The Festival Management Committee are extremely grateful to all who have assisted so far in the process of creating the new event. Organising the festival has required a lot of hard work from people in the business community, that have freely given their time, know-how and efforts all for the cause of ensuring our beautiful region does not miss out on vital economic benefits, as a result of losing Wintersun to NSW.

The FMC now ask for your support to enable this event to be an astounding success!

If you are able to assist as above or have any other suggestions as to how you might contribute to the Festival, please email secretary@coolyrockson.com!

Wintersun

Posted on June 1st, 2010 by admin

Wintersun has been an integral part of our cultural fabric in the Southern Gold Coast  for over 21yrs. And while this will be the last Wintersun Festival to be held here for the indefinite future, we at CSGC highly recommend you get your dancing shoes on and get to Coolangatta between the 4th-14th of June this year to boogie with the best rockers and swing dancers in Australia! Check out the hot rods and classic cars and revel in an era of days gone by, as the 50’s & 60’s are relived for 10 short days in our amazing winter sunshine!

Now don’t think that this will be the last time that Coolangatta will come alive with an event like this though, a new event for 2011 is under construction, so stay tuned and watch this space in the coming months for word of what the SGC and Tweed Communities come up with for 2011. In the meantime, let your hair down, get loose and make Wintersun 2010 the best yet!

Wintersun Workshop

Posted on November 19th, 2009 by admin

wintersun-logo

On Tuesday 17 November Connecting Southern Gold Coast and Tweed Tourism jointly hosted a workshop at Le Monde Café at Kirra Surf for traders. It was called “Getting the Most from the Wintersun Festival “. Barry McNamara of Wintersun Inc was the guest speaker and was well received.

Whilst the Workshop was attended by only 20 traders from both the Southern Gold Coast and Tweed, it did not blunt the collective enthusiasm of those present to hold another Workshop with Barry in February 2010.

A number of concerns were raised by traders and ensuing discussion with Barry McNamara revealed that some of them could probably be rectified in the programming of the 2010 Festival. This was a good result.

Also, Barry pointed out the following which was well noted and discussed by those present:

1.       There are many opportunities for traders to convert additional visitor spend into ‘dollars in the till’ during Wintersun and creativity and cooperation with the Festival should see this occur, for those traders willing to get active;

2.       The Festival is in need of volunteers, starting now;

3.       The Festival organizers have produced a booklet for traders which lists how traders can become a ‘financial friend’ of Wintersun and gives ideas as to how they can participate in quality promotions relating to the Festival;

4.      Barry encouraged traders to suggest to their suppliers of goods and services should also become a ‘financial friend’ of Wintersun for appropriate recognition and as a show of support.

5.       Wintersun Inc is an incorporated association under the laws of Queensland and a copy of its audited accounts are on its website under the “Students’ tab.

Any traders interested talking with Barry about the above or finding out more about how they can help or be involved with Wintersun are encouraged to call him on 07 5536 9509.
