The Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Party (DS4SEQ) is seeking your Chamber of Commerce’s assistance to further a Parliamentary e-Petition supporting Daylight Saving in South East Queensland.
In February this year, DS4SEQ executive members approached Independent Member, Peter Wellington, to discuss the possibility of tabling a Private Member’s Bill on Daylight Saving in state Parliament. Mr Wellington agreed, and on 14 April 2010, he tabled the *Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Referendum Bill*. Premier Bligh responded by undertaking a public consultation, the results of which indicated that around two thirds of Queenslanders support a trial and a referendum on Daylight Saving in South East Queensland. Unfortunately, both the Queensland Government and state Opposition have once again sided with regional Queensland by ignoring the majority view and announcing they would not support Mr Wellington’s Bill.
With the Bill due to be debated in March 2011, DS4SEQ has organised a Parliamentary e-Petition calling on the Government to support this Bill.
We believe that with significant support for the petition, the Government may be pressured into reconsidering their position.
DS4SEQ would therefore appreciate your support, and circulation of the petition, located on the Queensland Parliament website <http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au> or click the link below:
You can also reach the petition at this shorter address
- http://bit.ly/ahfWiE, or by navigating the Parliamentary website – Legislative Assembly / Petitions / Current E-Petitions / 1543-10 Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Referendum Bill 2010
Should the Bill be defeated, DS4SEQ is prepared to run another election campaign because we are committed to resolving the daylight saving problem for Queensland. We are in the initial stages of the party’s candidate endorsement process, and we will ensure that our endorsed candidates representing electorates within your Chamber’s boundary will be in touch early in the new year.
Should you wish to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
